Daft Punk

Has it been a rough week? Did someone call you out for having a case of the Mondays? Did you accidentally wear two different shoes to work on Tuesday? Did you spend Wednesday afternoon cleaning up vomit because one of your kids puked on your other kid, who then puked on you? Did your dog get expelled from doggie daycare on Thursday for trying to have sex with absolutely everything? OK, so (almost) none of those things happened to me in the past 5 days, but this week was far from a cakewalk. Thankfully, today is Friday, and no matter which flavor of indignity you were forced to choke down this week, I have just the thing to help you turn your brain off and forget.

It’s a YouTube video, it’s around 10 minutes long, and I’m fully aware that you might not make it through the whole thing. Fortunately, it only takes a few seconds for this video to work its magic, especially if you’re into Daft Punk, Parks and Recreation or, ideally, both.

While I can claim to be a fan of the latter, I’m definitely not an aficionado of the former. I know the songs that your average human being might know, though I suppose my time spent playing with the “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” iPhone soundboard app qualifies as some sort of deeper engagement. But when people started to get excited about some 15-second commercial that aired during SNL this past Saturday, it wasn’t exactly panda being born in the San Diego zoo-level news for me. But when you take those 15 seconds, loop them for an obnoxious amount of time, and pair it with a video of one of my favorite TV characters of all time… now we’re getting somewhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you (above) Ron Swanson dancing blissfully to a 4-bar loop of what most people seem to think is a new Daft Punk song. It’s stupid, it’s repetitive, and I hope it cures your week’s accumulated ailments like it has mine.

(And just for fun, you can listen to “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” below and imagine me trying to recreate it by haphazardly stabbing at a tiny, virtual sampling pad.)
