Congrats to JR JR on the new name! I loved the NASCAR reference, and I’d be lying if I said their old name wasn’t part of why I started listening to them, but it’s definitely not why I’ve kept listening to them. The Speed of Things was an excellent follow up to an excellent debut, and I know that spinning the copy I picked up at BK Music a while back is going to make my week markedly better.
I haven’t gotten too wrapped up in the 2016 election yet, but this week’s CD Monday was chosen in reaction (protest, honestly) to a certain someone announcing his candidacy.
Can a blog post be both long overdue and perfectly timed? You bet your stars and stripes it can!
Time to say goodbye to another Friday Cheers season. Sniff. It’s incredibly sad to think of how far off the next one is, but I figure I can suppress some of that longing by looking back at highlights from the shows I was able to make it to.
Without further ado, I present the inaugural YHT Friday Cheers Awards.
I was driving up (well… down and over, then up) to Chincoteague while Joe Pug was playing in Richmond on Friday, so I’m deploying Messenger as tactical redress.
While we were on our way into the St. Vincent show last Wednesday, an excited but exhausted Mrs. YHT asked me if I’d ever sat in the National’s balcony seats. (Subtext: We’re finding it more and more tempting to sit down at shows. This makes us feel old.) I told her I’d sat up there once, when Ben Kweller played the National in 2008.

Ben Kweller has always represented youth to me.
