So excited to have finally gotten my hands on a copy of the September/October issue of River City Magazine. Hopefully y’all already snagged a copy and saw the article I did with bassist Brian Cruse. Extravagant happenings are brewing at the Broadberry, Strange Matter, and En Su Boca, as the Extragavanza is set to unleash more than a dozen bands before the night is over. Among those set to perform are DIIV, Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires, Wolf Eyes, No Joy, and Richmond standouts like The Trillions, Avers, and the Snowy Owls.
It took me approximately .0135 seconds to decide which CD I’d drive around with this week.
I managed to sneak away for a few free-ranging hours at the Richmond Folk Festival on Saturday, and I brought my camera along with a photo post in mind.
I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Lindy Fralin recently. He plays around Richmond in a rockabilly outfit called The Bop Cats, and he’s known far and wide as one of the finest makers of aftermarket guitar pickups. (Check out this awesome mention in Guitar Player magazine.) The article won’t be out for a little while, but I’m celebrating earl by rocking 25 Years of Rock n’ Roll this week.
Team YHT is on a grandparent visit in Florida this weekend (I believe this is the first time anyone’s gone to Florida to ride out a hurricane), but I have a “What I would be doing” recommendation for all you wet and wild Richmond folks: Anything and everything Diamond Center.
While running along a barrier- and spectator-lined section of Monument Avenue, I found the perfect album to pair with UCI Road World Championship racing: Positive No’s Glossa.
My rationale:
I had a fantasy football draft scheduled for last Wednesday night, which happened to be the same night as a Broadberry show I’d been looking forward to for some time. Lucy Dacus… Young Rapids… Manatree… Avers… So I did what any music-loving perennial fantasy failure would do: I went to the Broadberry, found a place to sit, opened up Yahoo’s fantasy app and neglected to pick a running back until the fourth round.
Did I mention I’m terrible at fantasy football? Fortunately, the onstage lineup fared better than my virtual one.
Took this at the turnaround point of yesterday’s run (back at the beach this week). This fence separates the rest of the Corolla beach from the northernmost 4WD-only part, which cracks me up because it makes me think of Jurassic Park, like the trucks and SUVs are going to break out and wreak havoc when they find out the fence isn’t electrified. Whenever I want to run a little further and need to wriggle through the cables, I half expect this to happen.
You Hear That
